how do you handle bumps on the road?

Permalink Closed
I am new to this "law of atraction."  I finally sat down and watched the Secret movie about a month ago.  I've recently started to meditate and keep a journal.  My focus has been to manifest peace in my life and to meet my goals at work.  The first 2 weeks were like a honey moon.  I exceeded my expectations at work, and felt a real sense of peace and contentment.

Then, they made some changes and I am back to being stressed out.  I work in sales and now I have an old list of prospects to contact plus I have to contact each person 6 times instead of 4 which is what we did before.  I feel like a stalker and I don't know how I will meet my goal if half the people I contact have all disconnected phone numbers.  I know this sounds whiney and I should be grateful I even have a job.  But the whole point in meditating was to feel peaceful not stressed out.  I also know these doubts are not good for me.

My husband suggested since I am one of those people who is averse to any type of change maybe the universe is trying to give me some sort of lesson.  I drowned my sorrows Saturday morning when I went to Marshalls with a friend and blew my Christmas present gift certificate on things frivolous.  Now its Monday, and I dread the thought of going back to work.  Maybe the universe is saying hey girl, find another job, or maybe its some sort of thing for me to learn to be content no matter what is going on around me?  How does one figure out which?  Any thoughts?

Hey BearyB!

I have questions about the law of attraction too and love having a place to talk and ask questions. I am sorry you have hit a rough patch! I seem to run into them alot! It can drive me crazy, becasue then I ask myself what am I doing wrong?

It sounds like things really turned around and is very stressful for you. In those moments I think we are suppose to try to find the 'silver lining'...However, I have so much trouble doing this. I seem to just swim in the bad moments...

Treating yourself with a Christmas gift card isn't a bad thing at all.. I know I feel guilty too when I do it...

Hang in there! I like being able to talk about it, it seems to help.

Thanks Sal!  Its nice to know I'm not the only one that struggles to make sense of it all.

Guess what and I'm not kidding!  I went in to work yesterday and they changed my assignment.  For the next week, I am calling on folks who's contracts are almost up to just remind them of that fact, and if they want to continue with us great and if not, I just say something like I understand thank you for your business last year.  Its perfect!  Don't know what I'll be working on next week, but I'm thrilled for now!

I think of all the time I spent wondering and worrying and ranting and I wish I could say I showed yesterday with a smile on my face.  Isn't it all sort of funny, like the universe has a sense of humor or something.  I think this was definitely some sort of lesson I am suppose to learn.  Not sure whether it is keeping work in balance with the rest of my life, or maybe it is to work on keeping my inner peace no matter what is going on around me.  If the later is the case, I hope I do a better job next time.  LOL

Cheers,
BearyB

Wow! You got some great news then! That would be very hard to cold call someone like that even if it is your job.

I would definitely enjoy the good times while you have them. I have definitely been a person with a fatilisic personality in my life. I always think if something bad will happen, it willl happen to me.

I guess this isn't very postivie is it?

I will keep checking back on this law of attraction thing. I have heard about it, but don't really get it.

Hi Marie,

I can relate. My thing is to think wow things are great I'm happy so somethings going to happen and this won't last long. I wonder why we unconsciously do that to ourselves sometimes. Like we don't deserve it or something. I have decided this year to try faith. I mean I am working on being more positive and trying to be more optimistic. I hope next time I hit a bump in my road I won't get so stressed out. Keep us posted on your journey as well. I don't understand everything about this law of atraction stuff but it sure feels better in my mind and spirit.

Hey,

I am new here and hope this is a good message board. I saw the law of attraction topic and have heard this alot. But, I don't really know what it is. I will keep checking back to see if i learn something..

What is it anyways? I heard if you think good things they appear. However, that can't be true since it hasn't happened for me.

Hi to everyone,

I had heard a lot about the law of attraction as well but kind of thought of it in a negative way.

I seemed to attract a lot of negativity in my life but couldn't figure out why. If I was such a positive person, why did I always find myself surrounded by negativity? It sapped my energy and I felt burnt out a lot of the time. I could dish out all the positive energy in the world but I realized I couldn't ask for it for myself.

Watching "The Secret" is probably what began my enlightenment but reading and journaling in the "Pocket of Pearls" is where my journey really began. I realized for the first time exactly how I talked to myself and exactly how much negativity I was inviting in. It has made a big change in my life. I know that I need a better relationship with myself and am gradually starting to appreciate the feeling that I deserve it!

I hope to grow with everyone else here and am glad that I have found this board.

Best wishes,
Jade

Oh no! Am I attracting the negative stuff? I don't get it. I am not a bad person. What is that book you are talking about. I will need to check that out.

Hi Marie and all,

The "Pocket of Pearls" is a journal like workbook that teaches you to treat yourself in a kinder, gentler way. It is written by Merna Throne (a coach on this forum) and can be obtained from Amazon.com.

I bought the book because I enjoy journaling and thought it would be a new approach to journaling. I really had no idea of how I talked to myself and hadn't put any thought into what I actually thought about myself. I read the introduction for the book and I cried. I read the first exercise. It asked me what three phrases I had said to myself that day and why I said them. The example given was "I looked terrible at the bank today". I had said that EXACT thing not 5 minutes earlier. The other statements were equally negative. I realized that the things I said to myself were things I might think about someone I despised. It was a real eye opener for me.

That is where the Law of Attraction comes in. Basically what that means is that "like attracts like". I thought if I was really positive to everyone around me, then that's what I should attract. Then, I realized... What I really think about me... is completely negative and that is the energy I am sending out and getting back.

It's a work in progress. I am being more positive about how I feel about me and in turn, that is what I am attracting now. The next step is deciding what it is I want. But that is a whole other story.

Jade!

that sounds interesting! I've got 2 body images BK and AK (thats before kids and after kids). LOL What is this you are talking about?

Jade: thats a great description of the law of atraction. All those thoughts we send out to the world are like magnets and bring back to us more of the same. I guess its normal to have ups and downs. Some days I'm more positive than others and sometimes I just forget that thinking "man I'm tired" "I'll never get this done" "I can't do this" all bring me down. I've been trying to catch myself and stop thinking that way and it really helps. I also notice that if I don't keep up with what works the meditating, trying to keep things in balance in my life, then things get harder again. I'm liking this more upbeat me if that makes any sense!

Hi BearyB,

I think that's why I like the workbook so much, It is written so that you slowly and surely learn to re-program negative thought patterns. You don't have to do it every day, in fact, i haven't finished the whole book yet and I've had it since last summer. It takes a lot of repetition of new thoughts to change old patterns. It also takes me time to absorb what I'm learning. It's just kind of a "friend to me" companion.

* incidently, my parents are visiting me in California. They came from Alaska to get warm. They got here and it SNOWED. They were trying to get warm. Well, today.... it's beautiful and that definately helps me focus on the positive!!!

Have a great day

Jade

Hello Ladies,

I wanted to jump in on your great discussion with the Law of Attraction and inner voice. Yes, they go hand in hand.

My name is Jami and I am one of Visions - Chapter III virtual assistants. The workbook is great at breaking down our old habits and make us put healthier ones in place. It was designed to make you dig deep to make 'real' change.

You can purchase this book in the eHelp library. In addition, we have added a '90-day Challenge' to change your negativity for good with only 10 minutes a day. This may be something you wish to look into further. You will find this in the library as well.

Best,

Jami A.

Hey Jade and all,

Just had to say I'm originally from California. Small world? Sometimes the universe has a weird sense of humor. My aunt had been pining to visit Hawaii for years and when she finally went it rained for 3 days straight. Then the rest was great!

My husband has started eating healthier. A guy who refused to eat any kind of nut known to man is now eating little bags of mixed ones for part of his lunch. He says he is not as tired and doesn't eat as much during meals. In fact, the other night he was hungry and instead of bringing out the whole bag of cheez-its he poured some in to a bowl and just ate that. It was like some sort of weird epiphany. You know you can sit there and just munch and munch and just keep going without really realizing how much you consume. Funny we never did that before. I refuse to step on that scale just yet. He's even got himself down to 1 cup of a coffee instead of 4. Anyway, even though its not me, its the little changes the one step by one step that starts the ball rolling. Good luck to those of you working on your inner selves and outer selves too.

I agree, making small changes must add up eventually! It sounds like it does work with your husbands theory and proof of it.

I got my book and it is really easy. It only takes a few minutes aday, but you must be honest with yourself.

I will check back with you all on it!

I am finding this out. I have done my 'homework' from the website now a few times and I have gone from hating my ex to just not really like him .. LOL

He was really terrible to me and I have gotten so sick of hearing his voice in my head and I haven't even seen him in 2 yearS!

I am hanging out here from time to time. It does seem to be helping. I am learning something I guess.
