I have a problem that I know what I need to do, but its not what I want to do...I need help!
I had ordered some clothes online and when the package arrived at my house I opened it up to find 4 items instead of only the 3 that I ordered. Upon closer inspection, I got everything I had ordered, but there was this extra shirt in the order. I checked my receipt, no billing mistake, I'm not being charged for this shirt.
Now, I know I should call the company and tell them of this mistake, that I'm sure will ultimately end in me having to send the shirt back. I'm ok with this, however, it is a shirt I like that I would never buy for myself due to price. They threw in a FREE 100% Cashmeire Sweater, priced at $100.
Is it very wrong of me to keep this sweater and pass it off as their mistake, and not have any regrets??? What would you do?
Personally, I wouldn't keep it. I always think of Karma and if I was a business owner I wouldn't want someone to keep something they didn't pay for.
I was self - employed many years ago. I was buying something at a craft fair once and I remember giving a lady back a $10 bill that wasn't my change and she shot me the oddest look almost negative. I simply told her I wouldn't want it done to me if I own the place.
lol, Kari, you sound just like me! I'm great at spililng on myself!
Anyways, I knew what I had to do, I called the company last night. They couldn't believe that I was just calling to say I got something extra, they thought I had also been charged for it and thats why I was calling, to get it removed from my billing. But once I explained it to two different people, they finally thanked me for being honest and asked me to return it. So its in the mail back to the company.
I knew this was the right thing to do and I do feel great about what I did. I have no regrets about attempting to keep the shirt. Karma is exactally right Sal. And thats why I returned it, plus I woudln't want it done to me either.
Thank you everyone for your thoughts on this topic. I hope others can read it and do the same as I have done.
Good for you! You did the right thing... also, think of James Ray's boomerang theory. What you put out there always comes back to you in a more powerful way.
